This is literally breathtaking.

My friend just sent this to me… wow. Watch until the end.

Jesus Christ

Nothing makes sense anymore

holy shit.

Oh my god.

Wow. Wow.

Wow. I literally have tears in my eyes, that was spectacular.

This exact act was part of Amaluna when I went to see it earlier this year, and I swear, I have never heard an audience so quiet in my LIFE. I remember thinking at the time, too, that I had never imagined an audience holding its collective breath to see if someone could keep a stack of things balanced that way before, but the audience reactions were very much like the ones in this video. It was amazing.

Sometimes people have a hard time understanding what a happy relationship between two people who obvs think the other is awesome looks like.

We think this is one great (and holy bananas, so freaking hilarious) example.

T-Paining Too Much: The Meme-ification of Charles Ramsey

So many big questions to ask about Cleveland, so much to grapple with. So much that is unthinkable but needs so direly to be thought about. I feel like it’ll be a while before I can say anything intelligent about it. But in the meantime here are some thoughts about the side questions around the Charles Ramsey phenomenon.

I’m not sure “weird” is a good euphemism for “heartless” or “dehumanizing” here =/

A quick editorial cartoon about the intersection of self-pity, entitlement, rape, territoriality, misogyny and fear of women. You see it all over the place online in the form of Men’s Rights Activists (of whom there are a few reasonable non-misogynists), Men Going Their Own Way, Pick Up Artists, and dudes touting the “Red Pill”, because The Matrix is a good movie. Look any of these up if you have the stomach for it. These are extreme examples, but watered-down forms of these ideas are everywhere.

In lurking their blogs and youtube channels for a while, I’ve noticed that beyond the standard patriarchal chauvinism there is this deep fear of women - what they will do to me, how they will reject me, how they will use me, how they are changing society in a way that does not favor me, how they are making men into something I don’t like, how they are making themselves into something I don’t like, that they won’t give me what I want, and that they won’t give me what I think is rightfully mine. This goes beyond fear of feminism- this is fear of women at its purest. And that, to quote a puppet, leads to anger and hate. It’s sad.

I am a feminist. I think there’s enough ice cream to go around, but it does mean those of us with 3 scoops might have to give one or two up. Also, The Matrix is a fun movie but probably not anything you should be basing a philosophy on.

Man I just watched this thing like six times in a row, even beyond the message it’s still pretty technically impressive, great timing, editing, use of music and sound effects, it’s a pretty well executed little clip.

Damn, that was a good clip.

How the British say, “Sitcho Right Wing Ass Down.”

It’s also great to hear about living history from the people who lived it because, if you just read history textbooks, you’d be forgiven for thinking that women didn’t lead anything in the UK until Thatcher came along.

The Speaker was well versed in the book of “Bitch, You Tried It.”

And the lady giving that speech, Glenda Jackson, MP?

Welp!

FFFFFFFFF MR. SPEAKER THAT WAS A SICK BURRRNNNN!!!!!!

Gordon Ramsay doesn’t care about your gender, race, or creed. All he cares about is that you can cook.

The contestant, Christine, is blind, and he lets her know exactly what he thinks of her dish.

gordon ramsay is not allowed to make me cry from not-laughter or not-insults

SPICY, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS.

DID IT RAIN ON YOUR FACE

this is a perfect example of treating someone with a disability LIKE A PERSON

look y’all gone have enough of making me cry with no warning cuz of stuff on my dash

I remember watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares where this Black woman ran a Jamaican restaurant. It came out that this woman had a lot on her plate that she felt she had to deal with all by herself. There was a lot riding on the success of the restaurant, and she didn’t have a support system. What surprised me was how he did not force her into this Strong Black Woman role. He made it clear that she needed people around her who could truly help her with the burdens she had instead of adding to them. It was obvious from that episode was that what she needed was someone who could show her the real potential of her restaurant and how to maintain that.

But I also love how he has no fucks to give for silver spoon motherfuckers who just opened a restaurant because they thought it would be cool and fun then proceed to act like nobody needs to know anything about food or business to have a successful restaurant.

Besides this now, my favorite Gordon Ramsey has heart moments was on Hell’s Kitchen, where the Lady who cooked at Waffle House, although she was eliminated, he was so impressed with her, he decided to help pay for formal cooking lessons for her. Because he was like, “You’re in here out cooking all these so called chefs, all you need is more training.”

I love it, they were trying to shit on this black woman because LOL ONLY WAFFLE HOUSE

Gordon Ramsey be knowing

i love how he describes and listens to the food

[Gardens build community. It’s funny to be on the other side of the fence and hear all the comments: you know, people guessing what stuff is, just ooh and aah-ing, seeing someone out here, at six in the morning, standing in the street just looking at a sunflower, I mean, that’s what it’s here for.

Just because of how people look at them, and when they see them, just how it changes, they’re moved.

I didn’t want to be symmetrical, I didn’t want everything to be lined up, I wanted it to be like a forest.

I like to live on the edge, so I planted- I plant mint where you’re not supposed to.

These are seed pods, and these things, the seeds are in here, blow where the winds takes them, all over the place, and you wind up with broccoli two blocks away, people wonder why, “I ain’t plant no broccoli, how the hell did I get broccoli?”

Plants want to live, you know, and they’re gonna morph, and gonna do things, and gonna follow the sun, everything they can do to survive. They let you know what they want, they’ll let you know what they need, and here, I’m providing an environment where they can live. To me it’s like my solace right now. Plants change people. I’ve had conversations with people that I’ve seen for years that I would never imagine. This takes some people back home, a lot of people from the South, now they’re living in apartment buildings where they used to be on land.

I have people that would drive by, and say “I just wanted my mom to see your garden, hey look Mom”— I guess this is what she used to do and then they knew that their mom would, you know, feel good about seeing this. There’s an elderly Japanese guy, and he would come — early in the morning. He would just walk the paths. I mean, slow, he would just walk the paths of the garden and he’s in his 80s, and he doesn’t speak English, he’d just walk, walk in the garden, so we, well, you know, found a way to communicate through sign language and, uh, he brought me some plants that he wanted me to grow.

I found a mother and her daughter out here at about ten-thirty at night. You don’t just go somewhere at ten-thirty at night especially over here, in somebody’s garden, at ten-thirty at night, unless you really need it, and it hurt me, made me sad, you know, and I’d tell them, take what you want.

Why should there be people hungry? One plant can give you a thousand, two thousand, twenty thousand seeds. We have the land to plant them. If you look down the streets here, you see all this brown grass, grass, and grass when you could be feeding people. They call areas like this throughout the United States, you know, “food deserts.” I thought, you know, why not have “food forests”? — Rob Finley, South L.A.]
