Merf. Thinking is Hard.

Also, the other thing that makes me sad about this “conference” thing is that it’s giving me unpleasant flashbacks to the Asian Women Blog Carnival, where people speaking from their own pain said things that really hurt other people in their own pain and there was a fucking mess and it was awful and finally we had to have a caveat added that no, it’s not a safe space. 

The only way you get a safe space is when all participants agree on what a safe space constitutes and also agree to abide by those safe spaces. 

It’s not to say that this is a bad idea period… I think it’s a great idea! I just wonder if there are safer ways to engage and what the proposed format and procedures are to ensure people don’t have to engage with certain others if they don’t want to in an effort to stay safe.
